History of MDGS

Michigan Dairy Goat Society  Corporation filed 3/5/1976

It all started with a group of 4-H leaders.  “Society for the improvement of Dairy Goats” in Allegan County, as the late Lee Parkhurst recalled.

We were a small club at that time. I served as secretary , Alex Hall was the driving force that gathered us all together. Kathy Kridler got the first evaluation of  goats in this area, Harvey was his usual informative kind and tactful self. We all learned so much from him.

Most of our members who wanted to raise pure-bred goats and show at registered shows became part of MDGS. I served on the board for a year, but it was too hard for me to drive 3 hours at night back and forth to Lansing for meetings. I never could convince the Allegan Fair board to make it a registered ADGA show. Alex Hall was responsible for getting a testing group going for awhile down here back in the hey-day of  the Society. We had members near South Haven and as far north as Wayland .
